Love letters from Sweden

When I got into work today I saw gold package sitting on my bench. Inside was a hat and a love letter from a lady in Sweden proclaiming her love for me and asking for my hand in marriage. I was super excited as I have a special place in my heart for Scandinavia. Take note rest of the world..... you CAN buy my love.

Circulus at PDW

I got an invite to go to Portland Design Works "Mother Ship" and help build Circulus. I slept all day, woke up at 5:30pm (don't judge me, it was my Sunday off) so most of it was already built when I got there. I wasn't much help other than making each and every room I entered just a little more awesome. It was a night of magic and wonder... of dreams and desires. I was honored to be a part of it.
This was one of the boards from Hole Shot.

What a hoot, right? Not only that, they also have a basket ball hoop that you can electronically move up and down... AND a ping pong table. A mini halp pipe, a bowl, and Circulus... Portland Design Works is ready to party.

BFF

I went to the Bicycle Film Festival's showing of the Birth of Big Air. Wow. We all know Matt Hoffman is hardcore, but I guess I never REALLY knew. Ya know? It was so great. I went with my friend Eric, who works at Ti Cycles and he was telling me about this bike they just built called the 69er. Crazy. I rode home all fired up. Taking sweet jumps off of curbs with my bike with a basket... getting mad air. I'm talking like 6-7 inches here. Yeah, pretty epic.
Brent Barbur, director of the BFF

I stole someone's flash. On the left is Mark Lewman, editor of Freestylin and on the right is a guy in a leather coat whose name I didn't catch. Sorry coat guy.

Long Lost Jam

I wrote the name of this song down and then lost it. I looked for it everywhere because I was super stoked on it and so bummed that I misplaced the piece of paper. I was out with my friend the other night and they were telling me something kind of sad when I reached into my coat pocket and found it. I was like "Yeah!!!!!!!" which was inappropriate because my out burst wasn't the response they were looking for. I then had to tell the story about the missing song. Anyway, here it is... I am glad I found you song. The middle part with the lady screaming, I could do without, but the rest of the song is top notch.

Bike Rad(ar)

Posted on our shop blog by Kyle:

If you had a visit to Bike Radar this morning you couldn't help but notice that our humble little shop's website is featured as the Website of the Week. As level headed and demure as we are here at 21st we must admit that this gets us a wee bit pumped. Read the article here. It goes on about how bad ass we are at what ever it is that we do and that if we were public service officials we would probably be partying in a little house painted white. True as that may be it is also true that we love what we do, and that we get to share that love with the likes of you lot is truly what keeps us motivated. Thanks for watching, come by, come buy, let us fix your bike, and share some stories.

CreepinGamBooties

Sean was going to post this, but he is busy with school and making the flier for our next event on March 10th so I am posting it. This grossed him out more than when he found slugs in a tire while fixing a flat and it grossed him out more than the time he took out a bottom bracket and found roaches in the BB shell. He had a mild freak out when I touched it with my bare hands. Funny.

snowy portland

Not even an inch on the ground and all of the schools in Portland were shut down. Ha. People here kind of freak out a little when there is snow and they put chains on their car tires. Back home in Fargo, when a driver sees a three foot snow drift, they speed up. It's so freaking cold we have cars that you plug in to keep from freezing. Hardcore, I know. I moved away from that weather for a reason. Out here, when there is a "huge snowstorm" I can still ride my bike to work. Like today.....

Customer Solutions vol.4: Tin Man

This customer solution was sent in from my pal Jared or Jrad as he is lovingly called. Here I have been recycling my tin cans and it turns out I too could have been doing frame repair with them (please note sarcasm).

Funky Jams

A lot of people here in Portland will say something like "come to this night, it's really funky" or " listen to this song, it's funky" and then when I do, it's the opposite of funky. Then I feel mislead and get pissed off. Was I lied to or do they really not know what funky sounds like? Let me help you out Portland....
Funky:

Now, this is not to be confused with funk. This is more disco, but it's still funky.

Not funky:

Still a good song, but not funky. Take note Portland and stop leading me astray.... I still love you. You are the best city and I only have eyes for you.

Sean isn't the only artist here at 21st Ave Bicycles... we all are. We all have different styles. Example: below is Sean's interpretation of the 21st fingers.

Here's Kyles:

WOW. We have a lot of talent here at the shop.

Holy cow.. that had to hurt

Here's the full version of the final Kerin race in the track cycling world cup. Chris Hoy is a powerhouse, but the crash at the finish is a pretty big one. A rider named Awang had a splinter from the board pierce his leg and go all the way through.

Here's just the end and the riders scrambling to their bikes.

Steve's

I went to Steve's yesterday to plan out our trip. We are flying Iceland Air and it only costs $56 to bring our bikes. Holy crap. Steve is really, really, into bikes so I snapped a couple of shots of his place.

The Cannibal

My friend Chris Scuglia sent this over...Eddie Merckx in the 1969 Tour de Frace.

spoke stand

Tools

Our spoke cutter. Instead of keeping tons of boxes of different sized spokes that take up a bunch of room, you can just have bulk spokes and cut them to size. It cuts and threads all in one turn. It is pretty rad... and when I say pretty, I mean really.

CHICAGO!!!!!

I didn't race cross when I lived in Chicago and all I can say is, "my hats off to you". It's cold as shit there. Being from Fargo I am supposed to be super resilient when it comes to cold weather, but that's not the case at all. That's neither here nor there. Check out their new blog HERE.

Stuff to laugh at

Garland Jeffreys

I love Garland Jeffreys and I especially love his album "American Boy and Girl" although I can't find the song City Kids anywhere. Bummer.

Tools

This is a crown race puller and probably one of my favorite tools. It makes the job of removing a crown race a fraction of the time it would take you to do it with your traditional hammer and flat head screw driver AND it doesn't mar up the bottom of the race. Magic.

Steve's

You may know Steve from the customer in one of our many hilarious shop videos or you may know him from the streets because he puts in at least 30 miles a day and has been doing it since the early 70's. Well, Steve and I get along like peas and carrots and we are going to Denmark together. I went to his house to =night so we could plan our trip and buy our tickets. Jam on it.

BBF

Go here and buy tickets

Donnie's

Donnie Kolb's Fargo came into the shop and I insisted I build it up seeing as how I was born and raised in Fargo, ND. No, it's not a funny joke. People really do live there. Go check out Velo Dirt and see some more pictures. Do it... or else.
