yeah, it's the jam

I heard this song today and it blew my fucking mind. Listen to it.

How can we be more like Japan?

I went into the office at work to eat my tasty vegan soup and I saw this article from the NY Daily News that Kyle was reading. Bike parts/accessories in a vending machine? Hmmm....

A new vending machine in Brooklyn doesn't sell the real thing - but you can get a wheel thing.

Five-dollar inner tubes and all kinds of bike parts are available in the machine on S. Sixth St. in Williamsburg, in front of Baruch Herzfeld's Traif Bike Gesheft [loose translation: nonkosher bike shop].

"If people get a flat tire in the middle of the night, they can come here," said Herzfeld, 38.

"We've got bells, lights, locks, brake pads," said Matthew Caputo, 25, pressing buttons to flip through the offerings.

Embrocation for president

Jeremy, from Embrocation, came into the shop last week with this sweet treat! I don't know if you know this about me, but I love hats.... and I am very easy to please (my girlfriend may say otherwise, but don't listen to her. She lies.) so I was super stoked. Still am, actually. If you would like to get stoked too, you can buy one HERE.
While you are there make sure to read Married Kyle's newest article. I guess now that LDR Kyle moved away I can just start calling him Kyle and you all will know who I am referring to.

Waylaid by Dreams

By: Kyle von Hoetzendorff Wednesday March 24, 2010

Today I was moping around the shop, wondering if my life had reached its apogee somewhere in the past, that this high point, being not of note and hidden within the mausoleum of my poor memory would, at some point, present itself. I could be riding along in a taxi, listening to Slanted and Enchanted, or just simply sitting alone in a room quietly watching paint dry and bam, there it is. The fear being that this memory would be less than superlative, that this being the highpoint, this being the moment that if pressed, God would use to define the essence of what I am to him and to all of you would not, could not be considered a highpoint at all, at most God would describe the arc of my life as being like a ground swell on the prairie.

I am not one to be a bummer, we all have these days don’t we, when self-doubt creeps in like a greasy haired man in stained sweat pants and just bums out your whole day? Of course it happened to be Monday and that white castle on the hill, the lovely weekend was yet again perversely far off, this could have accounted for part of the loathing but I can’t imagine it was just the day of the week. I missed the whole rave scene so I am not able to point the finger at a mind rendered diaphanous by obscene amounts of MDMA. Rather, I lay today’s case of the Lows on a missed morning ride.

Clazy: master mechanic

take note everyone, this is bike repair at it's finest.

Signs can hurt or make us feel good

it reads: tested, defective

the wait is over

I know you want to skid your face off, but you don't have enough clearance between your stays. Bummercity, right? Wrong! Now you can get your beloved Randos in 25c and we have them IN STOCK here at 21st Ave Bicycles . Get 'em while they're hot.

I love Oregon: McKenzie River Trail

Lindo and I took a three day trip to the McKenzie River Trail this last weekend. It was my first time, but not my last. We parked right by the trail and just camped out of the Tahoe. It was magic. I had a lot of fun and learned that you can't have someone else crack your back while lying down. We tried.... 3 times.

Goods

I know you want to get rad on your bike, hell we all do. You may be thinking "Amanda, I want to get sweet air on my bike, but the bikes you have at 21st Ave Bicycles are just a little too big. What the shit do I do?" Well, stop loosing sleep and head over to Goods and talk to this guy

He may still have the gun. He may let you play with it. I don't know. I don't work there nor do I have a water gun. Well, that's not true. Mine is much smaller and shaped like a turtle. Go get rad with Shad.

Teabags

Do you love balls? I am pretty sure you answered yes. Some homeless man told me about this site and said I had to check it out. It's called Tea Bags on Top Tubes.

Mountain 60

I received an email about this race. Here's the 411. For more details go HERE

60 Miles
3250 ft elevation gain, both major climbs on dirt
~30% dirt
Start/End: The Dalles, OR

Start time: 9:00 a.m., Saturday April 24, 2010

Route map and elevation profile

This race is a primer to bigger and harder things. We’ve never organized anything in our lives, so it’s 60 mile baby steps for now. The plan is to do a dirt century race in June, a multi-day race in August, and a huge one-day race in September/October. If people actually show up for our races and want to do more, we’ll organize more.

RIP Phil Wood

Way Gay Tools

Since I posted a picture of that shirt I thought I'd post this number. In my hands I have a FAG and a dike. When one of Married Kyle's friends came in and asked me for a dike I just thought he was being an asshole. Turns out he was asking for a tool and I was the asshole.

Stacked

You guys know any good veterinarians, because my pythons are sick! The reason I posted these sweet pictures is to show off my shirt. Sean was my nurse when I broke my leg in November and he likes to ride bikes, so when his bike needed some love he came into the shop and we were reunited. Is that a run on sentence? Anyway, when he picked up his bike he brought me a little bottle of champagne (I don't drink, but if I did I would've) and this sweet shirt. Of course I had to cut the sleeves off. Right? Oh and that face I am making is helping me to be more powerful.... just in case you were wondering.

Hey shop rats

Take a page out of Alice's book, guys, and rub my back.

Jeremy Dunn good

I hope Jeremy looks as sweet on his bike outdoors as he does in the shop.

Wolfpack Hustle

Are you in LA? I'm not, but this isn't about me. If it was about me and I was there you would see me at the Wolfpack Hustle. I would maybe even wear a sweet unitard like the one Freddie Mercury wore. You know the one, the one with the plunging neckline. I guess that would leave my boobs hanging out, but I'm ok with that.

Light in the air

Here is Sean showing us a great way to kill some time.... off the clock, of course.

Sunday Funday

This last Sunday Lindsay, LDR Kyle, Landon and I drove to Hood River for a little mountain cycling. We met up with Landon from Tonic Fabrication (yes, two Landons) and he showed us things like sweet/dangerous cliffs and Tom Selleck's 70's party island.

Culture Cycles

I got an email from Culture Cycles giving me a heads up that they existed. Here's what they said:
"We launched CultureCycles.com on January 1st this year, and if you haven't figured we'd pass the word along. We're out to promote the cycling community as a whole, pulling from all corners of the web in order to create a place where it all comes together, for the everyday enthusiast."
Check them out.

Stacy's new ride

Don't let the crazy face scare you. That is how he shows emotion.... with tongue.

Tisk Tisk

Will this boy ever learn? Alice? What the hell? At this point it's like you TRY to do things the hard way.

Clazy's tat.

Really? Again with the tat? You sound like an asshole when you use the word tat. Anyway.... Clazy was wearing shorts and I just noticed his sweet leg tat.

Sean's sweet tat

Seriously, don't say tat.
