Bike Portland gives the BLAM some love

Today on bikeportland.org Jonathan Maus wrote an article about the BLAM's next event...and a bit about yours truly too. Check it out:

'Cross Up' indoor cyclocross event coming to The Lumberyard

Posted by Jonathan Maus

Winter weather got you down? Then perhaps "Cross Up," an indoor cyclocross race being put together by Amanda Sundvor of Backyard Blam, will deliver you from the doldrums.

Cross Up will be tournament style races with two riders going shoulder-to-shoulder in each heat. Racers will ride customized Raleigh Furley singlespeed cyclocross bikes with flat bars, big tires and platform pedals. Amanda and her Backyard Blam crew have devised a course that will include some jumps, rollers, berms and barriers. Whether you like catching air or if you prefer to stay earth-bound, Amanda says the course will be a ton of fun for novice and experienced riders alike.

Or, as Amanda put it, "The course will be manageable for the novice... It won't be too intimidating... But for people that can get rad on their bikes they'll have the opportunity to do so."

As if that wasn't exciting enough, this event will be held at The Lumberyard. The indoor bike park (we shared the full scoop back in November) on NE 82nd Avenue is still a few months from its official opening, but the owners have agreed to host this event.

The Chinese Viking Show

Oh hey, I almost forgot.... well, actually I totally forgot. Jake Tong and I have a radio show on Portland Radio Authority every Wednesday night from 10p-12a called The Chinese Viking. Last night was our first show. There is talking, laughs and DJs. Last night we both played a 45 minute set just to give listeners a taste of what we are about. I kind of feel like I might have missed my calling because I was AMAZING... tons of jokes and my voice is amazing. We are going to record podcasts so you readers in other time zones will be able to enjoy our show. Finally, you'll be able to hear me thus bringing us that much closer together. We will have guest MCs and DJs. Stay tuned...

Jake bringing the hard house.

Me.... sounding good and looking great.

Mitch the Bear is back home visiting from school in Flagstaff, AZ.

Seagull hearting BLAM

Seagull Bags sent this gem out for the next BLAM event, Cross Up. I used the best in house model I have to show you how good this bag can look on you.

Wow, look at Sean's can. How adorable, he's got the butt of an eleven year old boy.

Sock it to My Biscuit Jam

I was sitting on the couch watching Tina Turner videos with my then girlfriend when about a half an hour into it she turns to me and asks "Do you have a crush on Tina Turner?" and I said "oh course... what, you don't?"

Eddy Light

Fact: Sean looks good, especially when he sticks his gut out. Hey, Sean... nice shirt.

Back to the basics

I am back to being one handed again, but I am trying not to let that keep me down. Have you ever seen that movie Emmanuel's Gift? It's about a one legged boy who rode his bicycle across Africa. Keeping that movie in mind I thought if he can ride his bike across Africa I can do bike repair with one hand-ish. Now I have a sweet green cast so if you want to sign it swing by the bike shop and show me some love.

Happy New Year to me

Those of you who know me, know that I am prone to accidents.... a lot of them. I have had 4 hand surgeries complete with an artificial knuckle put in, two hip surgeries, and a plate and 11 screws in my leg. Also, when my doctor told me I didn't have to see him anymore for the leg, I got hit from behind by a car that day and re broke my leg. This time it was my fault and I crashed my bike, re broke my bad hand and my left arm is in a sling.... and my face looks pretty sweet... and by sweet I mean shitty. 2012 started off kind of rocky, but with my next event coming up I am confident it's going to be a super rad year. Hi five... oh, well maybe not just yet.
